Last Victim: Mother Shot During Mass Murder-Suicide, Dies From Injuries

Woman dies from her injuries three days after her daughter went on a shooting spree, killing three others and herself.

HOUSTON, TX -- The lone survivor of a mass shooting that left four people dead at three separate locations on April 7, has died.

Laverne Holmes was wounded when her daughter, 29-year old Dakitta Holmes went on a shooting spree on April 7, killing her stepfather, sister and another man, before turning the gun on herself.

On Monday, Laverne Holmes died from her wounds, officials said. (Sign up for Patch’s daily newsletter for your neighborhood.)

Police are still trying to determine why Holmes, went to her sister’s home in Fresno and killed her, and then returned to her southeast Houston neighborhood where she shot other family members.

Police discovered the bodies in southeast Houston at 7 a.m., after receiving a call for a welfare check.

That’s when they found the bodies of Dakitta Holmes and another man in the 3800 block of Mount Pleasant Street.

Two houses over from the first crime scene, police found Laverne Holmes wounded and her husband shot to death.

Laverne Holmes was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.

Several hours later, Fort Bend County deputies found the body of Carolyn Jean Holmes, 48, at her home in the 4800 block of Richmond Knoll in Fresno.
