Many Houston School Districts Canceled Classes Tuesday As Nicholas Threatens Flash Floods

HOUSTON, TX — Several school districts began announcing closures as early as Sunday night in anticipation of Tropical Storm Nicholas as it tracks toward Houston.

Houston ISD remained open Monday, but announced in the morning that the district would be closed and all classes canceled Tuesday.

Here is what you need to know regarding each district's closure policy:

Houston ISD

All Monday after-school activities and sporting events are canceled, and schools and district buildings will close at 5 p.m. In-person and virtual classes are canceled for Tuesday, when all HISD offices and schools will be closed. Students will not need to make up the missed school day.

Alief ISD

All after-school activities scheduled for Monday are canceled, and the district is running a staggered early dismissal schedule for Monday classes.

These are the dismissal times for each school:

• Alief High School — 1:30 p.m.
• Alief Learning Center — 2:10 p.m.
• Alief Crossroads — 2:15 p.m.
• Alief Middle School — 2:40 p.m.
• Alief Elementary School — 3:20 p.m.
• Alief Intermediate School — 3:50 p.m.

All classes and after-school activities are canceled for Tuesday, and district offices will be closed. Updates will be posted on the district website and social media.

Alvin ISD

Campuses will be closed Tuesday, and the district plans to resume classes Wednesday. Tuesday's regular meeting of the Board of Trustees has not been cancelled, and the district will provide further updates on social media.

Anahuac ISD

Anahuac held classes Monday, and is expected to give an update on after-school activities and/or Tuesday's schedule later Monday.

Angleton ISD

Angleton schools will remain closed Tuesday, and all after-school events and activities, including practices are canceled for Monday and Tuesday. The district expects to resume classes Wednesday

Brazosport ISD

Schools will remain closed Tuesday, and all after-school and extracurricular activities are canceled. Depending on the storm's impact, the school district will communicate any additional closures on social media.

Channelview ISD

Channelview ISD will close all schools and facilities Tuesday.

Clear Creek ISD

The school district will be closed Tuesday, and all activities are canceled for Monday and Tuesday, including the school board workshop meeting Monday evening. The district will give an update on Wednesday classes Tuesday.

Cleveland ISD

Campuses will be closed Tuesday. Further updates will be made on the district website and social media when more information is available.

Conroe ISD

The school district will close at 5 p.m. Monday and remain closed Tuesday.

Cy-Fair ISD

All after-school activities are canceled Monday, and all Cy-Fair ISD schools and facilities will be closed Tuesday, including virtual classes and after-school activities. The Board of Trustees meeting will be held Monday night as scheduled.

Damon ISD

The school district will remain closed Tuesday.

Danbury ISD

Danbury ISD will be closed Monday and Tuesday, including all extracurricular and after-school activities.

Dayton ISD

The district canceled all after-school activities for Monday, and all classes and after-school activities are canceled for Tuesday. District officials will provide further updates on the website and social media.

Deer Park ISD

All schools and facilities will be closed Tuesday, and all after-school activities are canceled for Monday as well. The Monday night Board of Trustees workshop will be postponed and combined with the regular meeting schedule for Sept. 20.

Dickinson ISD

Dickinson ISD will remain closed Tuesday, and all after-school activities are canceled. District officials are expected to provide another update Tuesday afternoon.

Fort Bend ISD

All Fort Bend ISD schools and facilities dismissed early Monday, and all classes are canceled Tuesday. All after-school activities at elementary, middle, and high schools are canceled Monday, including UIL activities and extended learning. Monday night's Board of Trustees agenda review meeting also has been canceled.

Friendswood ISD

Friendswood ISD will be closed Monday and Tuesday, which includes all after-school activities.

Galveston ISD

The school district will be closed Tuesday, and there will be no after-school events or activities. Further updates will be provided on the website and social media.

Hitchcock ISD

Hitchcock ISD will be closed Tuesday, and all extracurricular activities also have been canceled. The school district will make a decision regarding Wednesday classes on Tuesday.

Huffman ISD

All after-school activities will end at 4pm Monday for secondary campuses, and the school district will be closed Tuesday. The district still plans to have late arrival for secondary campuses Wednesday.

Katy ISD

All extracurricular activities scheduled after 6 p.m. are canceled, and all Katy ISD campuses and facilities will be closed Tuesday.

Klein ISD

Klein ISD will be closed Tuesday, and all after-school student and campus activities are canceled for Monday and Tuesday.

Lamar Consolidated ISD

All campuses will dismiss students an hour early Monday with elementary campuses releasing students at 1:55 p.m. and secondary campuses releasing students at 2:40 p.m., and after-school activities, including meetings and events, are canceled. Elementary campuses will provide after-school supervision for students until parents can safely arrive. All Lamar CISD campuses and facilities will also be closed Tuesday.

La Porte ISD

All classes and extracurricular activities at La Porte ISD are canceled for Tuesday. The district will continue to post updates on our website and through our social media channels.

Livingston ISD

Livingston ISD is planning for normal school operations this week, but school officials are monitoring the storm and will update as necessary.

Magnolia ISD

Magnolia ISD offices and campuses will be closed Tuesday.

Montgomery ISD

All Montgomery ISD facilities and campuses will be closed Tuesday. District facilities are scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, pending road and weather conditions.

Needville ISD

The school district campuses and administrative buildings will be closed Tuesday.

New Caney ISD

New Caney ISD and all district schools will be closed Tuesday, and all extracurricular activities and athletic events scheduled for Tuesday have been postponed. The district will provide an update Tuesday afternoon regarding Wednesday’s school schedule.

Pasadena ISD

The school district will remain closed Tuesday, and all after-school activities for Monday and Tuesday are canceled.

Pearland ISD

Pearland ISD will remain closed Tuesday, and all after-school activities have been canceled. The school district will provide an update by Tuesday afternoon regarding school for Wednesday.

Santa Fe ISD

Santa Fe ISD will be closed Tuesday, and all after-school and extracurricular activities are canceled. The school district is expected to make a decision Tuesday afternoon regarding school on Wednesday.

Shepherd ISD

All after-school practices and events are canceled Monday, and all Shepherd ISD campuses will be closed Tuesday.

Splendora ISD

After-school activities for Monday are canceled, and all Splendora ISD offices and schools will be closed Tuesday. Updates regarding Tuesday's scheduled after-school activities and any additional school closing dates will be posted on social media.

Spring ISD

All after-school activities are canceled Monday, and all schools and offices will be closed Tuesday.

Spring Branch ISD

All Spring Branch ISD schools and offices will be closed Tuesday, and all after-school activities, athletic events and open houses scheduled for Monday and Tuesday are canceled. There will be no after-school child care on either day. The Spring Branch ISD Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for Monday is canceled, and the grand opening for Hunters Creek Elementary School scheduled for Tuesday is postponed.

Stafford Municipal School District

All campuses and facilities will operate on a regular schedule Monday, but after-school activities are canceled, including the school board meeting. Additionally, classes have been canceled for Tuesday, and the district will be closed for a weather day.

Sweeny ISD

The school district will remain closed, and all classes and extracurricular activities are canceled for Tuesday.

Texas City ISD

Texas City ISD will remain closed Tuesday, and the district will reach a decision Tuesday afternoon regarding the plan for school Wednesday.

Tomball ISD

Tomball ISD schools and offices will be closed and no virtual instruction will be expected Tuesday. In addition, all after-school activities are canceled for Monday and Tuesday. School board meetings originally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday have been postponed and will be rescheduled.

Willis ISD

Willis ISD will be closed Tuesday, and all after-school activities also are canceled. The school district will make an announcement Tuesday evening regarding any impact the storm will have on school Wednesday.
