Little League World Series 2017 US Final: A Bit Of Sunshine For Texas

WILLIAMSPORT, PA — Down 5-0 at one point in Saturday’s Little League World Series United States championship, the Lufkin All-Stars battled back, bringing some sunshine back to Hurricane Harvey-battered southern Texas with a 6-5 win over previously undefeated Greenville, North Carolina. The All-Stars made their first appearance in the tournament, which brought the best Little League teams in the world to Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The Lufkin All-Stars battle Japan at 2 p.m. Sunday for the overall Little League World Series championship. Japan shut out Mexico, 5-0, in an earlier game Saturday.

Lufkin came into the fourth inning with a 5-0 deficit, but rallied against the powerful North Carolina team with pinch-hitter Clayton Wigley’s two-run homer, the Associated Press reported. Malcom Deason narrowed North Carolina’s lead in the fifth with an RBI single, then scored again on a wild throw by North Carolina catcher Bryce Jackson to third. Mark Requena hit a two-run, go ahead home run in the sixth inning to win the U.S. title.
