Rep. Al Green Drawing Up Trump Impeachment Documents
President Donald Trump would be the third U.S. president in history to be impeached, if it were to happen.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Al Green, the Houston Democrat who took to the floor of the House of Representatives on May 17 and called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump, is said to be drawing up the articles of impeachment, according to various media sources.
Green’s call for impeachment came the day after reports of an alleged memo penned by former FBI Director James Comey claimed Trump asked him to cease the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia. Green told C-SPAN he is working with constitutional attorneys and was in the process of drafting articles of impeachment, Fox News reported.

During his speech on the House floor, Green said Trumps firing of Comey was an attempt to obstruct justice.

“There is a belief in this county that no one is above the law, and that includes the president of the United States of America” Green said. “Our democracy is at risk.”
President Bill Clinton, who was impeached in 1998, was only the second in U.S. history, with President Andrew Johnson being the first in 1868.
But calls for impeachment are hardly uncommon in American politics.
In 2014, South Dakota lawmakers proposed a resolution to impeach President Barack Obama after the controversial swap of Guantanamo prisoners for U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the Washington Post reported.
Democrats also called for the impeachment of President George W. Bush after the 2003 invasion of Iraq, amid claims that weapons of mass destruction were hidden there, USA Today reported.
So far, Green has literally been the lone voice in the wilderness, and has indicated he will go it alone if necessary, according to a Newsweek report.
Any attempt to impeach Trump would require a majority vote in the House and a two-thirds majority in the Senate, and with Republicans controlling both houses, it’s unlikely to happen in the near future.
