Rice University Offers Free Tuition To Middle Income Families

Starting in fall 2019, Rice University will offer middle-income families with typical assets a grant aid to cover full tuition.

HOUSTON, TX — Rice University has just made it affordable for middle income families to send their students to college. Undergraduate students from families that earn between $65,000 and $130,000 per year can attend Rice for free thanks to the Rice Investment program beginning in fall 2019.

Students can pay half tuition if their families earn between $130,001-$200,000 and students with family incomes below $65,000 will receive grant aid covering not only covering their full tuition, but also all of their mandatory fees and room and board, Rice stated on its website.

"At Rice, we see firsthand the difference that students from every background can make in every human endeavor. It's the very essence of our university that we remain affordable for every student who can earn admission. Because talent deserves opportunity," Rice University President David W. Leebron said in a statement.

Rice University ranked number 16 on U.S. News' National University Rankings for 2019. It costs $61,350 to attend Rice per year, which includes tuition, fees, room, and board, according to U.S. News.
