Spring Break 2017: There’s A Lot To Do In Houston
Museums, Parks, Festivals and more ensure there is plenty to keep the family entertained during Spring Break 2017 in Houston

HOUSTON, TX- If the beach is just too far away, or just not your style for Spring Break activities, then don’t fret because there’s still plenty to do to keep the family entertained, and a lot of those activities are either cheap, or best of all, free.
Here are just few activities in the Houston area that can be enjoyed by children of all ages, and adults too:
Asia Society Texas — Make plans to attend Spring into Asia March 13-17, a free event at Asia Society Texas, 1 pm – 3 pm. Participate in come-and-go arts and crafts with a new themed activity each day. Tickets are free with RSVP online.

- Monday: Cherry Blossoms - Create a hanging scroll featuring a blooming cherry blossom tree.
- Tuesday: Lotuses - Make a faux clay tea light holder shaped like a lotus.
- Wednesday: Nowruz (Persian New Year) - Decorate egg ornaments to celebrate Nowruz.
- Thursday: Holi - Celebrate Holi, the festival of colors, by drawing traditional rangoli with bright chalk.
- Friday: Koi Fish- Try your hand at making origami koi and create a paper pond for them to live in.
The Children’s Museum of Houston — This kid-friendly favorite does it up big for spring break every year. This year’s theme, Xtreme Spring Break, is set for March 10-19. It’s dubbed the “ultimate family destination” with hands-on activities and loads of entertainment featuring all-day Xtreme Zones, American Ninja Warrior-inspired shows with Sam Sann and Daniel Gil, human hamster balls, Xtreme BMX Block Party, After Hours DJ dance party and more. Don’t miss the annual Shaving Cream Pi(e) Fight March 14 for Pi Day! First 100 each day at 10 am will enjoy an Xtreme Giveaway. Go free Thursday, March 16, for Free Family Night from 5 pm – 8 pm. Admission is $12 per person with hours 10 am – 6 pm. Located at 1500 Binz.

Rosenberg Railroad Museum — This railroad-themed museum in Rosenberg is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm and 1 pm – 5 pm Sundays. Folks can tour the gallery and enjoy special exhibits such as The Life and Times of the Pullman Porter, Tower 17, model trains, garden railroad, 1972 Mopac Caboose, the 1879 Quebec, and Education Station. Located at 1921 Avenue F in Rosenberg. Admission is $7.50 adults, $5 kids age 2-14.
Houston Museum District – Enjoy seven museums for free each Thursday in Houston’s Museum District.
- Houston Museum of Natural Science: 2 pm – 5 pm
- Children’s Museum of Houston: 5 pm – 8 pm
- The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston: 10 am – 9 pm
- The Health Museum: 2 pm – 7 pm
- Holocaust Museum Houston: 2 pm – 5 pm
- Houston Museum of African American Culture: 6 pm – 8 pm
- Buffalo Soldiers National Museum: 1 pm – 5 pm

Discovery Green — Houston’s downtown park, Discovery Green, is always the site of free family fun. Spring break is no different March 13-17, noon – 4 pm. This year families can enjoy a variety of free activities powered by Girls Inc. featuring a daily hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education program for kids.Don’t miss Touch-a-Truck Tuesday where kids can get up close to HPD Helicopter, construction vehicles and more. Discovery Green is located downtown at 1500 McKinney.
Houston Zoo — College students in these local schools get FREE admission any daywith a valid ID: University of Houston, Rice University, St. Thomas University, and Texas Southern University. Students at these colleges save $2 off admission with ID: Houston Community College, Houston Baptist University and South Texas College of Law. There is no special programming during Spring Break at the zoo, but this college deal is too good not to share! Admission: $18 adults, $14 kids age 2 – 11.
George Ranch Historical Park — This historical park in Richmond is offeringlearning and fun over Spring Break March 11 and March 14-18. Celebrate 100 years of ranching and farming at the Historical Park!Kids can explore life as a Texas settler and learn chores, help feed the livestock, watch a cattle drive, see goat-milking and blacksmithing demonstrations, have fun in the garden and enjoy Treehouse Story Time. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids 5-15. Hours are 9 am – 5 pm Tuesday – Saturday. Located at 10215 FM 762 in Richmond.
**Enjoy a special Spring Break Historic Chuckwagon Lunch at the park served daily 12:30 pm. Adult meal is $14, kid’s meal is $11. Tickets can be purchased online here. Reservations highly recommended.
Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center — Spring Breakout returns to this wonderful park in Humble March 13-17 with free daily classes. ** Reservations are required for March 15-17 with limited spots available. Reservations open March 1! Call to reserve a spot: (281) 446-8588.
Monday, March 13: Signs of Spring Walk (10 am)
Tuesday, March 14: Bird Feeders (10 am)
Wednesday, March 15: Texas Bound (9 am – 2 pm) for ages 7-12 **
Thursday, March 16: Jr. Angler (9 am – 2 pm) for ages 8+ **
Friday, March 17: Jr. Canoe Training (9 am – 2 pm) for ages 10-15 **
Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo — Value Wednesday is the day to save money on Houston Rodeo fun (March 15 during spring break). Select seats are just $10 to the rodeo and concert with Thomas Rhett March 15. Check out the livestock show, AGventure, carnival and shopping at Reliant Park for just $5 for adults. Kids and seniors are free! Don’t miss the $2 games and $2 food bites from 11 am – 4 pm in Kids’ Country Carnival. Purchase tickets online.
Movies, Theater & More
Alamo Drafthouse Katy — Take advantage of Kids Camp at Alamo Drafthouse Katy March 10-16 with an 11 am screening of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Reserve your seat online with just a $1 – $3 donation to a local nonprofit. Located at 531 S.Mason Rd.
Main Street Theater — Main Street Theater is offering 10:30 am matinees during Spring Break, March 13-17. Kids will enjoy How I Became a Pirate March 13-14 andRamona Quimby March 15-17. Tickets are $16-$20 each. Performances are at Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston (MATCH), 3400 Main.
