Three Men Charged With Capital Murder in 4-Year Old Girl's Death

Suspect who was wanted in connection with another murder, admits to driving get away car and implicates two others in the killing

HOUSTON, TX -- Three men have been charged with capital murder in the death of a 4-year old girl, who was shot to death last month during an armed robbery attempt at a Greenspoint apartment complex.

Philip Battles, 18, Ferrell Dardar, 17, and Marco Alton Miller, 17, were arrested last week and charged in with capital murder in connection with the shooting death of Ava Castillo.

Castillo was killed and her sister and mother were shot when three people tried to steal her mother’s purse outside their apartment on Nov. 14.

Police arrested Battles last week and in connection with a separate homicide case, and according to police Battles admitted during questioning to being the driver of the getaway car used in the Castillo case.

Police said that during questioning, Battles implicated Dardar and Miller as his accomplices, and that a witness also placed Dardar and Miller at the scene at the time of the shooting.

Battles, Miller and Dardar are facing a possible sentence of life in prison, or the death penalty if they are found guilty.
