Woman Killed Helping Step-Daughter Who Ran Out of Gas.

Man charged with intoxication manslaughter after woman is crushed to death, step-daughter and grand daughter also injured.

HOUSTON, TX -- A woman was hit by a car and killed by a car Saturday night while helping a family member who’d run out of gas on the Southwest Freeway.

The woman’s step-daughter and her children were driving in a Nissan traveling inbound on Interstate 69 near Belfort when they ran out of gas and stopped on the side of the freeway, police said.

She called her step-mother and asked her to bring some gas.

As they were filling up the car, another car clipped a van, lost control and crashed into the family's sedan.

When the oncoming car hit the woman’s car that parked behind her step-daughter’s car, it slammed forward and pinned the step-mother between both cars, crushing her to death, police said.

The woman’s step-daughter and her 15-year-old daughter were both struck as well, but her 9-year-old son managed to jump out of the way, authorities said.

The mother of the two children is in serious condition, but is expected to live; the 15-year-old girl was being treated for minor injuries, according to officials.

The driver that caused the accident was treated for minor injuries and arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter, police said.
