Woman Claims Self-Defense In Common-Law Husbands Murder

HOUSTON, TX — A woman accused of stabbing her common-law husband to death during an argument on Monday night, has been charged with his murder.

The stabbing was reported at about 11:30 p.m. in the 3600 block of Lazywood Lane.

Homicide investigators said that Maria Martinez, 31, was driving with her 26-year old common-law husband, when the couple began arguing.

During the argument, investigators said Martinez stabbed the man in the chest.

Paramedics rushed the man to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he died.

Martinez told investigators she was defending herself, KRC reported.

She was arrested and is in the Harris County Jail and held without bond.

Police have not released the name of the victim.
