• HPD officer hospitalized, driver dead after crash on Eastex Freeway (fox26houston.com) — A Houston police officer was hospitalized and a driver died after a speeding pickup slammed into a parked patrol car on the Eastex Freeway near the 610 Loop, not far from Houston Heights commuters' usual routes. The officer is expected to recover, while investigators are still determining whether intoxication played a role and have not yet released the driver's identity.
   

• Harris County deputy shooting suspect captured after manhunt (fox26houston.com) — A suspect accused of shooting a Harris County deputy during a family disturbance call in east Harris County has been captured, easing concerns for Houston Heights residents following the overnight manhunt. The deputy is in fair condition, while officials say the suspect had prior felony convictions and allegedly violated bond conditions before this latest incident.
   

• Former Harris County deputy accused of using authority to get victims to perform sexual favors (khou.com) — A former Harris County sheriff's deputy is facing charges of attempted sexual assault and official oppression after allegedly threatening a woman with criminal charges unless she performed a sexual favor. He's being held on a $60,000 bond with strict conditions, and has lived in Houston for about a decade, making this a closely watched case for Houston Heights residents concerned about law enforcement accountability.
