The Humble Independent School District was hit especially hard, when torrential rain caused massive flooding of the San Jacinto River and Cypress Creek.

Those flood waters washed raw sewage and tons of contaminated water into neighborhoods, and flooded Kingwood High School, and nearby buildings of the Lone Star College-Kingwood campus.

While the college expects to open this year, Kingwood High School was closed, forcing Humble ISD to send those students to Summer Creek High School, and stagger attendance for both student bodies.

Students at both campuses started school on Sept. 11.

Since then, the community has hosted fundraising events, even as they remove the debris from their own homes, in some cases.
