Celebrating Hispanic Heritage with Irving Public Library

The Irving Public Library celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with the launch of a new web series, “Be Bilingual.” Episodes of the series are posted at 1:30 p.m. every Monday.

Each episode focuses on a letter of the 30-letter Mexican-Spanish alphabet. Host and children’s librarian J’Ann Alvarado introduces a word of the week and breaks down how the word is used in different tenses, conjugations and gender nouns.

When the coronavirus pandemic forced the city to close libraries and facilities, employees turned to social media to reach residents. In developing content and other virtual offerings, they took advantage of an opportunity to reach new audiences.

“Be Bilingual” is hosted on the Library’s new YouTube channel. The channel features videos for every member of the family: instructional drawing videos, yoga and more. New content is posted weekly. The channel can be found by searching @IrvingPublicLibrary.

The library also offers Bilingual Storytime at various times on its Facebook page. For a schedule of dates and times, check the Library's event calendar.
