Irving Police Issue Fourth of July Guidance

Report illegal fireworks by calling the non-emergency line at 972-273-1010.

The Irving Police Department issued guidance for how residents can responsibly celebrate the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The department put out the guidance in a Thursday afternoon social media post. The post features a flyer that includes important reminders about fireworks, celebratory gunfire, grilling safety, and protecting pets.

As a reminder, celebratory gunfire is illegal and extremely dangerous. Police remind residents that bullets must come down and those projectiles can cause serious injury or death.

Fireworks are also prohibited within Irving city limits due to the fact that they cause numerous fires and injuries across the county every Fourth of July holiday.

"If you need to report illegal fireworks and can provide the exact location and a description of the person responsible, please call our non-emergency line at 972-273-1010," the post states. "Help us keep 911 available for life-threatening emergencies."

When it comes to grilling safety, it's important to keep grills in an open area and well away from homes, fences, trees, or any other flammable materials. Never leave a hot grill unattended.

Pets are another concern this holiday weekend. More pets go missing around Fourth of July than at any other time of the year. Make sure to keep pets indoors this weekend and, if possible, provide a safe, quiet place away from any loud noises.

The department also encourages residents to celebrate responsibly by staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, designating a sober driver if they plan to drink alcohol, and keeping a close eye on children around pools and other bodies of water.
