• Lockhart ISD board approves targeted stipends, pay increases to help retain teachers (cbsaustin.com) — Lockhart ISD is giving teachers, administrators, and hourly staff pay raises and new stipends as part of a nearly $1 million compensation package taking effect in August. Leaders say the plan, including better health insurance and housing efforts, is meant to help employees keep living and working in Lockhart and Central Texas while the board prepares a balanced budget vote in June. 
• TX Police say newly arrested suspect in 2 cold cases could be a serial killer (lmtonline.com) — Lockhart is among several Central Texas communities where a recently arrested suspect in two Austin- and Bastrop-area murders is believed to have criminal connections, prompting investigators to review other cases. Austin police say the man confessed to two killings and two 2025 assaults, and they’re now checking for similar crimes across the region that might affect women’s safety in places including Lockhart and nearby Dale.
• Maxwell On Edge As Deputies Lock Down ‘Active Incident' (hoodline.com) — An active law enforcement incident in Maxwell, just eight miles west of Lockhart, has prompted a heavy sheriff’s presence and possible road closures in the area. Officials say the situation appears isolated but are urging people to avoid the scene, call 911 for urgent safety concerns, and watch official channels for updates as investigators work to learn more.
