📰 News we're reading

1. Marfa schools host 'Let's Talk About It' open forum (bigbendsentinel.com) — Marfa ISD is inviting parents and community members to a "Let's Talk About It" open forum on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Marfa ISD Auditorium on Gonzales Street. Leaders will answer questions, hear concerns, and share updates, with supervised kids' activities and Spanish interpreters provided so more Marfa families can participate.

2. Jess Williamson Adopted A Highway (stereogum.com) — A Texas musician has officially adopted a two-mile stretch of Highway 2810 just south of Marfa, working with the City of Marfa to honor a landscape that inspired her upcoming album. She describes regularly driving from town to this spot to listen to mixes, and even shares GPS coordinates for locals who might want to visit or spot her picking up trash.

3. Picturing Texas Art: Stewards of the Scene (glasstire.com) — Marfa's art scene is spotlighted in a statewide photo series featuring West Texas gallerists posed at Marfa City Hall, including dealer Eugene Binder, who moved his gallery to town in 2000. The piece places Marfa alongside Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio as a key Texas arts hub, underscoring how local galleries shape both the city and broader state art culture.

4. Marfa Public Radio to celebrate 20 years with November gala in Midland (bigbendtimes.com) — Marfa residents are invited to support their hometown public radio station at a Nov. 5 "Marfa to Midland Gala" in Midland, featuring live music, dinner, and a silent auction. With federal funding gone, ticket and sponsorship sales will help sustain Marfa Public Radio's independent service across West Texas for the next two decades.
