• Marshall council passes new budget, property tax rate increase (marshallnewsmessenger.com) — Marshall homeowners will see a property tax rate jump to $0.668915 per $100 valuation, about a 9-cent increase that adds roughly $8 a month to the average tax bill. City council approved the new budget, boosting police and fire funding by nearly $1.5 million and giving all city employees a 3% cost-of-living raise, while significantly increasing debt service payments. 
• Marshall Police Department set to host its National Night Out (cbs19.tv) — Marshall families are invited to National Night Out 2026 on Oct. 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Marshall Convention Center on East End Boulevard South. The free event will showcase police and fire vehicles, safety demonstrations, and local service groups, all aimed at strengthening trust between residents and first responders while promoting a safer community.
• ‘Just a great time': Marshall High senior gets hands-on democracy lessons at Texas Boys State (marshallnewsmessenger.com) — A Marshall High School senior, active in JROTC and Kitty Hawk honor society, spent a week at Texas Boys State learning how elections, policy debates, and compromise work in practice. Sponsored by the Jefferson American Legion, he held city and county party leadership roles, met officials from across Texas, and returned to Marshall inspired about future civic leadership opportunities for local students.
