• Fatal crash involving 18-wheeler closes lanes on I-635 in Mesquite Wednesday (dallasnews.com) — A deadly early-morning crash on I-635 in Mesquite killed a driver after their vehicle hit the back of a slowing 18-wheeler near the Gross Road exit, leaving only the far-left lane open for hours. Mesquite police warned of significant delays before TxDOT cameras later showed the scene cleared, but the incident highlights ongoing safety concerns for local commuters. 
• Mesquite plans to close North Branch Library under new city budget (keranews.org) — Mesquite's newly adopted city budget will close the North Branch Library and fold it into the nearby Florence Recreation Center, shifting services and staff while promising longer hours and mobile outreach. One council member opposed the move as a major loss for north-side residents, and the city also plans to consolidate Dunford and Goodbar recreation centers into reservation-only facilities over coming months.
• No charges for Mesquite officer on video hitting man who died in custody (wfaa.com) — A Mesquite police officer will not face criminal charges after a Dallas County grand jury declined to indict him in the death of 55-year-old Willie Rose, who died following a brief confrontation and restraint. Mesquite police say the force used did not violate department policy, while Rose's family questions the officer's actions and is weighing next legal steps.
