• Mesquite City Council unanimously approves new budget, which will close North Branch Library (wfaa.com) — Mesquite's new city budget will close the North Branch Library and shift its services into the Florence Recreation Center, while keeping the main library open. City leaders say the move will extend services citywide, but some residents and at least one council member argue the smaller space, reduced staffing, and other planned recreation center closures amount to a loss for neighborhoods. 
• Lisa Maldonado dies in two-vehicle crash on Interstate 635 (newsline.com) — A 33-year-old Garland woman died after her SUV collided with a tractor-trailer on the transition ramp from westbound I-30 to northbound I-635 in Mesquite, and the truck driver now faces a manslaughter charge. Mesquite police traffic investigators are handling the case, while legal experts note families often seek independent investigations and possible wrongful death claims after serious truck crashes.
