Veterans, family welcome WWII veteran home at Midland airport ahead of his 102nd birthday (firstalert7.com) — Residents and fellow veterans gathered at Midland International Airport to welcome home World War II veteran Cosme Gomez Heredia Sr. just before his 102nd birthday. The Midland Veteran Partnership helped organize the heartfelt greeting, and Heredia Sr. is set to serve as grand marshal for the city's Veterans Day parade in November, giving locals another chance to honor him.

Layne's Chicken Fingers confirmed for former Andrews Highway Wendy's (star-telegram.com) — A familiar corner on Andrews Highway is set for new life as Midland City Council approved a zoning change that clears the way for a Layne's Chicken Fingers at the former Wendy's site. City staff say the chain has already filed renovation plans, with work expected to wrap up in September, bringing another fast-casual option to Midland diners.

Midland College and 3:11 Ministry launch dorm project (yourbasin.com) — Midland College and local nonprofit 3:11 Ministry have launched the 3:11 Ministry Dorm Project to support homeless and housing-insecure students in Midland. The program outfits dorm rooms with essentials like bedding and other basics, helping students focus on school and eventually give back to the community, while inviting residents to donate or volunteer to keep it growing.

MDC and Planning & Zoning seeking applications for vacancies (star-telegram.com) — Midland residents now have a chance to help shape the city's growth, with applications open for vacancies on the Midland Development Corporation and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Seven-member boards oversee economic development and land-use decisions, and interested locals can apply online by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, without reapplying if they submitted earlier this year.

Mustangs find their physical edge in win over Jim Ned (mrt.com) — Midland Christian's football team snapped a three-game skid with a dominant 50-27 home win over Jim Ned, powered by a pick-six and five touchdown passes. The Mustangs say a renewed physical edge on defense made the difference as they now turn their focus to hosting powerhouse Wall in Midland this Friday night.
