North Austin Bar Fight Leads To Fatal Shooting (Updated)

AUSTIN, TX — One man was killed and another two injured by gunfire early Sunday in the culmination of a bar fight that spilled into the parking lot of a bar, police said.

The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. at the La Preferida bar located at 10205 N. Lamar Blvd. Police received a report of shots fired in the parking lot of the establishment, where they found three Hispanic men who had been shot — including Julio Cesar Gamez, 26, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other shooting victims, men in their 30s, were transported to Dell Seton Medical Center with injuries deemed non-life-threatening, police said.

Witnesses told police a fight had broken out inside the bar among the victims and several other Hispanic suspects, officials said in a press advisory. The fight continued into the parking lot where the shooting occurred, police said. The suspects fled the scene in a white Cadillac Escalade truck with chrome wheels. Police released a photo of a similar vehicle in the hopes someone might alert police as to its whereabouts toward finding the suspects.

Police said the Travis County Medical Examiner has conducted an autopsy before ruling the death as a homicide. To help in their investigation, police urged anyone in possession of video or who may have information to contact them.

The incident occurred at the intersection of North Lamar Boulevard and Masterson Pass just before 2:30 a.m. According to Austin-Travis County EMS medics, a man in his 30s was pronounced dead of a gunshot wound. Two other men in their 30s were transported with serious gunshot injuries as well, medics said.
