Man, 18, Fatally Shot In Head At Popular Austin Hookah Lounge

Luis Alberto Rodriguez Tamayo was hanging out with his friends when shooting broke out that also injured two others, police said.

NORTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — Police on Monday identified the man who was fatally shot at a popular hookah lounge in North Austin the previous night, revealing also that a suspect has yet to be apprehended.

On Sunday at around 4:07 a.m., police got a call of shots being fired at the Paris Hookah Lounge, 1934 Rutland Dr., a popular after-hours venue that was at full capacity at the time. Luis Alberto Rodriguez Tamayo, 18, was seated at a table talking to friends when a bullet struck him in the head, police said.

At a subsequent press briefing, police said multiple shots were fired from a passing vehicle. It's still unknown how many shots ultimately were fired, but numerous shell casings were found at the scene, a police officer said.

The teen was rushed to Dell Seton Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 1:47 p.m. on Monday, according to a police press advisory. Two other people who were struck by gunfire drove themselves to the hospital, police said.

One of the victims driving herself to the hospital was treated for a head wound after a bullet grazed her. Both of the two other victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

No motive for the shooting has been established, police said. What's more, police added, none of the victims appears to have been involved in any sort of confrontation prior to the shooting.

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy with a date to be announced at a later time, police said. Meanwhile, a $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible. Those with information can remain anonymous, police stressed. NORTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — A weekend shooting in North Austin left one man dead and two others injured, police said.

The incident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. Sunday along the 1900 block of Rutland Drive, police said. It was from there that a man in his 20s was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with critical injuries before he was pronounced dead. Two other victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police didn't indicate whether an arrest has been made, but said the case is being treated as a homicide.
