1 Killed In North Austin Shooting

An early Sunday shooting incident on Sunday, March 29, just after 2:35 a.m. at 500 E. Highland Mall Boulevard left a man dead.

AUSTIN, TX — A man was killed overnight after a confrontation between two groups of people at a motel culminated in a gunfight, police said.

The incident occurred on Sunday, March 29, just after 2:35 a.m. at 500 E. Highland Mall Boulevard, police said. According to a press advisory, police received multiple calls about gunshots being fired in the parking lot, but police found no shooting victims upon their arrival.

Later, police received a call from Dell Seton Medical Center alerting to a man suffering from a gunshot wound who was transported there by friends. Despite life-saving measures by hospital workers, the man died of his wounds just after 4:30 a.m., police said.

The shooting victim was identified as Kalvin Anderson, 24.

According to multiple witnesses interviewed by police, a verbal confrontation erupted between two groups that were staying at the motel located at the reported addreess. The verbal confrontation escalated into a physical fight that ended in the discharge of multiple weapons, according to police.

In the shooting's aftermath, police said, two women suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds before being treated and released from local hospitals. At least four vehicles were towed to forensic facility for processing, according to police.
