2 Austin Officers Hurt After Drunk Driver Hits Their Vehicle

Officers Brandon Reinarz and Marco Gonzalez were responding to service call when Jorge Lopez Noyola, 43, failed to yield right of way.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Two officers were hurt after being struck by a drunk driver last night in North Austin, officials said on Monday.

At around 8:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, officers Brandon Reinarz and Marco Gonzalez were responding to a service call when their patrol vehicle was struck by another car at the intersection of Parkfield Drive and Payton Gin Road, the Austin Police Department said in a press advisory.

As the officers' vehicle traveled westbound and entered the intersection with a gren light, the driver of the other vehicle failed to yield the right of way. The other driver then made a left turn, causing the collision.

Both officers were treated by Austin-Travis County EMS on scene, officials said. Reinarz was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and later released. Officer Gonzalez was released at the scene.

The other driver is identified as Jorge Lopez Noyola, 43. A subsequent police investigation revealed Noyola was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital where he was placed under arrest, police said. After receiving medical treatment, he was booked into the Travis County Jail and charged with DWI.
