3 Teens Charged After Victim Shot In Robbery Try: Austin Police

Victim was shot in face and neck while trying to wrestle shotgun away from suspect, then shot a third time in the back as he tried to flee.

AUSTIN, TX — Law enforcement officials released more details related to an attempted robbery over the weekend that left two men wounded, including the victim who was shot several times.

Details of the robbery gone awry Saturday were outlined in an arrest affidavit the Travis County Sheriff's Office provided to Patch. Three teenage suspects were arrested following the incident along the 1700 block of Lancer Lane shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday, during which a victim was shot in the face, neck, shoulder and back.

Two 17-year-old suspects were identified as Jesus Corrales and David Dewey-Haagensen, while a 16-year-old suspect was not named given his minor status. The 21-year-old victim of the home invasion sustained serious injuries after being shot, according to the affidavit.

The details the affidavit the robbery originated with a betrayal by a person the victim believed was a friend. He told police that after alerting an acquaintance on Snapchat that he was home, the supposed friend arrived with two masked suspects, one of them wielding a shotgun, while demanding cash.

The victim then grabbed the end of the firearm, only to be shot in the face and shoulder, according to affidavit details. As he fled to elude further gunfire, he was shot a third time in the back, according to the affidavit. Two of the suspects were tackled and held by police by other residents, while details on the capture of the minor is unspecified.

The inured victim was transported to St. David's South Austin Medical Center, according to the affidavit. Dewey-Haagensen also was hospitalized with injuries sustained during his attempt to flee, according to the affidavit.

Corrales was booked into the Travis County Jail under a $50,00o bond, Dewey-Haagensen remains at the hospital pending his arrest and the minor was taken to the Gardner Betts Juvenile Justice Center.
