American Veterans Traveling Wall Offers Pflugerville Residents Chance To Pay Tribute

Replica of wall in Washington, D.C. is in town through Sunday, with opportunities to honor military veterans and make rubbings of names.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — If you didn't have time today to pay tribute to America's military veterans, there's still plenty of time and an opportunity to do so in grand fashion.

The American Legion Kerlin Lyerly Post 154 is sponsoring the American Veterans Traveling Wall, a slightly smaller replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. , currently on display in Pflugerville through the weekend. The wall is on display 24 hours a day through 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, at Pfennig Park, 1301 W. Pfennig Lane.

It's an 80 percent-size replica of the Vietnam Memorial in the nation's capital.

“We celebrate that we will honor our Veterans with this commemorative display coming to Pflugerville over the Veteran’s Day holiday,” Mayor Jeff Coleman said. “The wall reminds us of the bravery of our troops and honors those who gave all during the Vietnam War.”

The City of Pflugerville and American Legion Kerlin –Lyerly Post #154 partnered to have veterans and volunteers onsite during Veterans Day to help guests locate names on the wall. On Veterans Day, we honor military service members from all branches of the Armed Services, both past and present, for their service.

During the Traveling Wall display, on-site computers will be available to aid in looking up the location of the engraved names on the monolith. Additionally, specialized paper will be provided to visitors to make rubbings of the names as keepsakes.

The Traveling Wall measures eight feet tall at its apex and is 360 feet long, officials explained. There are 12 flags flown over the wall and A-frame displays with Vietnam War timelines and statistics. In addition to honroing those who serve and have served, members of the public may purchase AVTT merchandise on site.

According to AVTT, The Traveling Wall was created as a celebration of freedom and tribute to America’s warriors and their family members.
