Austin Intersection Being Improved For Safety, Efficiency

Intersection of 45th and Red River streets are being enhanced thanks to funding from the 2016 Mobility Bond, Mayor Steve Adler noted.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — A North Austin intersection is being made safer thanks to funding from a bonds issuance, the mayor noted this week.

In his regular email to reporters on significant local happenings, Austin Mayor Steve Adler said the intersection of 45th and Red River streets are being enhanced thanks to funding from the 2016 Mobility Bond. Safer and more efficient signal timing, reassigned lanes and the creation of dedicated left-turn lanes on three approaches to the intersection are all part of the enhancements, he noted.

The refurbishment is expected to be completed by summer.

It's the fourth intersection to begin construction as part of the Intersection Safety/Vision Zero program funded by the 2016 Mobility Bond, the mayor said. The 2016 Mobility Bond dedicates $15 million to fatality reduction strategies for projects listed on the Top Crash Location Intersection Priorities Improvement List. je said.
