2 Men Injured In Separate Austin Shootings

Victims hospitalized In separate incidents in north and east parts of the city, including one left with critical, life-threatening wounds.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Medics responded to two shootings on Thursday, including one leading to critical, life-threatening injuries.

The first incident occurred in North Austin along the 1500 block of Rutland Drive occurred just before 2 a.m., according to Austin-Travis County EMS. The victim, a man in his 40s, is recovering in the hospital after reportedly being shot in the head in North Austin early Thursday, according to report

Medics initially categorized the victim's injuries as critical and life-threatening, but police later told KXAN the man is expected to survive as his condition improves. The news station said the man was shot in the head, although Austin medics didn't specify the nature of his injuries.

About 30 minutes later at around 2:30 a.m., medics were dispatched to the 1700 block of East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in East Austin amid reports of a second shooting. Medics said a man in his 20s was transported to a local trauma facility with injuries deemed both critical and life-threatening.

It's unclear if the shootings were related, and police have not reported having made an arrest. Patch will update when more details are known.
