Austin Officer Was Suspended For Three Days After Hitting Pedestrian
Officer Charles Tucker hit the passerby on a crosswalk while making a right turn, according to a newly released police memo.

AUSTIN, TX -- A police officer who hit a pedestrian with his vehicle over the summer was punished with a three-day suspension, according to a memo released Tuesday.
KXAN-TV reports the officer, Charles Tucker, was driving his patrol vehicle north on Roland Johnson Drive on June 30, when he stopped at the intersection of East St. Johns Avenue. In making a right turn, Tucker hit a pedestrian on a crosswalk, according to the memo.
There was no reason for the crash detailed in the memo, according to the news station. However, the memo hints at some measure of fault, citing a police department rule regarding the operation of a department vehicle "...in a manner and rate of speed that would allow for the avoidance of people and objects."
