Austin Parks & Rec Invites Public To Help Design Public Park

St. John's Pocket Park is a dormant little park of just an acre, but city wants to hear from residents what they want on the green space.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX -- The city's Austin Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled an upcoming public meeting inviting residents to provide input into the design of the St. John Pocket Park development project.

During the meeting, park officials will be joined by consultants in presenting various development concepts into the design of the planned space. The aim of the gathering is to revitalize the park and add amenities for the public.

St. John Pocket Park is a neighborhood park of just over an acre located at 889 Wilks Avenue. Currently, its "amenities" consist solely of a picnic table and fenced-in, abandoned swimming pool and restroom structure.

City officials said the Parks and Recreation Department Aquatics Division has no plans to resume use of the pool or restroom structure at this location, with future swimming facilities in the St. Johns/Coronado Hills area to be considered as part of the Aquatics City-wide Master Plan.

As a result, the existing facility is set to be demolished, with plans to use the area used for other purposes.

That's where the public comes in. Residents seeing basic conceptual renderings to visualize potential uses for the space will have a chance to provide their input on what they'd like to see at the site.

The budget for any improvements is $100,000.

The meeting is scheduled for May 24 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Pickle Elementary School cafeteria, 1101 Wheatley Avenue. For additional information, please contact project manager, Robert Brennes at 512-974-9472 or email.
