Austin Police Announce No-Refusal DWI for Halloween Weekend

If you refuse the breath test, it's likely they will get a warrant to test your blood.

In anticipation of heavy partying for Halloween, Austin police will be cracking down on drunk drivers this weekend.

The Austin Police Department announced in a press release Wednesday that starting Friday at 9 p.m. a no-refusal DWI initiative will be enforced. This means that if any driver pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving refuses to take a breathalyzer test, police will get a search warrant from a judge to obtain a blood sample. The no refusal initiative will last until Sunday at 5 a.m.

This isn’t new for the Austin Police Department. In 2014, 44 people were arrested during Halloween weekend during the no refusal initiative.
