Austin Police ID Man Struck, Killed While Trying To Cross Highway
Pedestrian killed in incident occurring on Saturday, Sept. 7, at around 2:20 a.m. along the 6500 block of North Interstate 35 southbound.
AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday released details related to the death of a pedestrian struck while trying to cross a highway over the weekend.
The incident occurred on Saturday, Sept. 7, at around 2:20 a.m. along the 6500 block of North Interstate 35 southbound. After a preliminary police investigation, detectives learned the victim was attempting to cross the stretch of roadway when he was struck by a green, 2011 Ford Focus traveling in the inside lane.
Police said the victim, identified as Louis Chambers, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials noted the driver remained on the scene to cooperate with a police investigation, and no charges are expected to be filed.

The incident marked Austin’s 56th fatal traffic crash of 2019, police said, resulting in 58 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018, police added, there were 49 fatal traffic crashes and 50 traffic fatalities.
