Austin Police ID Pedestrian Struck By As Many As Three Cars Two Days Before Christmas

Sarah Jane Villegas, 25, was killed as she attempted to cross at the 1300 block of South Capital of Texas Highway, police said.

AUSTIN, TX — Police have identified the pedestrian who was killed two days before Christmas after being struck by several cars just west of downtown.

Sarah Jane Villegas, 25, was crossing from east to west along the 1300 block of South Capital of Texas Highway when she was struck by a black 2013 Cadillac traveling northbound. The victim was then struck by a second vehicle, a blue 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche and possibly a third vehicle.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police noted there are no sidewalks or crosswalks in the area where Villegas was killed.

Police noted that Villegas' death marked Austin’s 76th fatal traffic crash and the 78th fatality of 2016. At this time in 2015, there were 96 traffic fatalities in Austin, police added.
