Austin Police ID Victim Of Fatal Car Wreck Along FM 2222

Daniel Joseph Royas, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene after the car he was driving drifted off roadway before hitting guardrail.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday identified the victim of a fatal car accident that occurred early Saturday morning.

The accident claimed the life of Daniel Joseph Rayos, 31, along the 8500 block of FM 2222. Police say Rayos was killed when the vehicle he was driving, a 2008 Nissan Sentra, drifted off the right side of the roadway and struck the end of a guardrail head-on Saturday at around 12:30 a.m.

Rayos was dead at the scene, police said.

The case is still being investigated. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-8255. Those with information also can submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.

The wreck marked Austin’s 31st fatal traffic crash and the 33rd fatality of 2017. At this time in 2016, there were 33 fatal traffic crashes and 33 traffic fatalities, police noted.
