Austin Road Closure Alert: Stretch Of I-35 Closed For Paving

Alternate closing of highway northbound decks main lane planned Sunday through Wednesday nights, June 3-6, transportation officials said.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin motorists: There's a closure of a key artery this weekend of which you should be aware. This way, you can plot your travel plans accordingly. Late Friday, Patch received word that the northbound Interstate 35 lower/upper deck main lanes will be closed for paving work.

In an emailed press advisory, Texas Department of Transportation officials said they plan to alternate closing the I-35 northbound decks Sunday through Wednesday nights, June 3-6 for main lane, for paving.

  • The lower deck closures will occur Sunday through Tuesday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. During the closures, I-35 northbound mainlane traffic will be detoured to the upper deck at Martin Luther King Boulevard. Drivers wishing to access Manor Road (exit 235B), Dean Keeton, or 32nd – 381/2 Streets (exit 236), will need to exit at Martin Luther King Boulevard (exit 235A), and stay on the frontage road.
  • The upper deck closure will occur on Wednesday night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting. During the closure, I-35 northbound traffic will be diverted to the lower deck at the split, and traffic will be reduced to one lane from Airport to 51st Street.

Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the upcoming closures, transportation officials said. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes as delays are expected. TxDOT asks the traveling public to remain aware when traveling through the work zone.
