California-Based 'Living Spaces' Furniture Store Coming To Pflugerville

City council members inked the deal to land the 650,000-square-foot store to be built at Heatherwilde Boulevard and Texas 45.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- Pflugerville City Council members on Tuesday approved a deal to build a 650,000-square-foot Living Spaces furniture store.

Construction on the 650,000-square-foot store will be on a 60-acre site at the southwest corner of Heatherwilde Boulevard and Texas 45, according to Assistant City Manager Trey Fletcher. Living Spaces is a California-based company.

Mayor Jeff Coleman spoke about the significance of landing the corporate tenant after council approved the deal at its Tuesday council meeting. “We will be the first fulfillment center for them in the state of Texas,” Coleman said, quoted in the Austin American-Statesman. “This is an incredible opportunity for the city of Pflugerville.”

Coleman noted an added value of the deal is that the city will derive city sales tax revenue for online furniture orders as well.

“Since the day I was elected, we’ve talked about how we need a destination retail, and this is destination retail,” the Statesman quoted Coleman as saying. “We’re now going to see people come into Pflugerville and spend their money here as opposed to our neighbors spending their money in Round Rock or Cedar Park.”

Officials said a minimum of 150,000 square feet of the structure will be open retail space for walk-in customers and another 400,000-square-foot area will encompass a so-called "fulfillment center," the Statesman noted. A fulfillment center is where the functions of warehousing, locating the ordered item, packaging it and shipping it to the customer all occurs.

All told, the footprint is twice the size as the Ikea store in nearby Round Rock.

Construction for the facility is expected to take 18 months after officials close on the property, which s expected to be in six months, the newspaper reported.

According to information on its website, Living Spaces features more than 150 Living Rooms, 115 Dining Rooms, and 100 Bedrooms from a variety of brands "...to meet any design style."

Company officials tout their corporate philanthropy in the communities they serve, "...which is why we've pledged our financial support for key organizations that share our same core values," company officials wrote on their website. "In 2014, Living Spaces donated over $200,000 to organizations such as Furnishing Hope, Special Olympics Southern California and the 100 Club of Arizona. And we're on our way to contributing at least as much to our supported organizations for 2015."
