CIA Director, Intelligence Experts To Gather At UT-Austin For National Security Forum
National Security Forum is open to public yet filled up quickly with RSVPs, but Patch will provide a livestream link for those interested.

AUSTIN, TX — The University of Texas at Austin will be the site of a National Security Forum next featuring the CIA director and other intelligence experts to campus.
The Robert Strauss Center, the Clements Center for National Security and the Intelligence Studies Project at UT-Austin will host the forum designed to discuss key national security challenges facing intelligence and law enforcement agencies. Topics of discussion will focus on defense, intelligence, diplomacy and international financial policy.
The event takes place in the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center Ballroom, 2110 San Jacinto Blvd., on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The forum is free and open to the public, but advance registration has closed given the level of interest. However, the event also will be livestreamed, and Patch will provide a link ahead of the event next week for those wishing to watch.

The theme of this year’s Texas National Security Forum is “Alliances and Partnerships in American National Security.” Discussions will be aimed at promoting the exchange of well-informed views on a number of issues and policies. The discussions and keynote address will include:
- Michael Pompeo, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency
- Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute, former United States Permanent Representative to NATO
- Leslie Ireland, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Intelligence and Analysis
- Marcel Lettre, former Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence
- John McLaughlin, former Acting Director of Central Intelligence

The event is co-sponsored by the Texas National Security Network, Stratfor and the LBJ School of Public Affairs. The Clements Center is a nonpartisan research and policy center that draws on the best insights of diplomatic and military history to train the next generation of national security leaders.
The Strauss Center integrates expertise from across the university, as well as from the private and public sectors, in pursuit of practical solutions to emerging international challenges, university officials said.
