At their August 10 meeting, Pflugerville City Council approved a recommendation from the resident bond committee to purchase 29 acres of land on the northwest corner of Pecan Street and FM 685 for a mixed-use development, city hall and a new voter-approved recreation center. The funding for this land will include a combination of cash reserves and existing General Obligation (G.O.) bonds, not to exceed $10 million, and utilize a request for proposal (RFP) process to explore market-driven proposals including retail and residential opportunities to help offset the overall cost of the final project, guided by a citizen advisory committee.

Upon hearing the committee’s recommendation, Mayor Victor Gonzales stated “this is something our community can get excited about.”
The G.O. bonds included in the recommendation come from the land acquisition item in Proposition B of the 2020 G.O. bond, and would fund the purchase of any land used for parks and recreation purposes. This recommended action allows the City of Pflugerville to gain control of the proposed development site, and enter a competitive RFP process to seek and evaluate master development plans and Public-Private Partnership opportunities between the City and the private sector to deliver a unique project in the core of the community.
