Where should you keep this kit? Make sure it’s in a dry, easily accessible place everyone in your home knows about.
Prepare your home

Prepare for a power outage
Did you buy a generator after last winter? Make sure it’s fueled and you know how to set it up properly. Keep all generators outside at least 20 feet away from doors, windows and vents to avoid accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.
If your power does go out, make sure to keep your freezer and refrigerator closed, do not use a gas stove to heat your home, disconnect appliances and electronics to avoid damage from electrical surges and stay tuned to local officials for warming centers.
