Country Artist To Perform Next To Salvation Army Red Kettle In North Austin

Singer-songwriter Cory Morrow will sing at the kettle in front of Macy's at The Domain, with other musicians expected through Christmas Eve.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — This time of year, you're bound to see those Salvation Army red kettles with someone ringing a little bell to remind you to give to those less fortunate (you should put in at least a buck, it won't kill you). Well, brace yourselves for more than just a bell for musical accompaniment at the Domain-located kettle this weekend.

Texas country singer-songwriter will be jamming next to the kettle this coming Saturday, Dec. 10 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Macy's at The Domain shopping center. In so doing, the country artist urges other musicians in the city to perform next to a red kettle during the holidays.

Morrow is a self-described passionate supporter of the work The Salvation Army performs throughout the community, particularly on behalf of women and children experiencing homelessness. Last year 73% of those sheltered by The Salvation Army in Austin were women and children, according to the organization.

"My wife and I prayed for God to show us where we could begin serving in our community," Morrow explained. "Within a day or so I received a call inviting me to meet with The Salvation Army. One visit and I was hooked.”

This won't be his first rodeo, either. Morrow has partnered with The Salvation Army in Austin in the past, and is working to raise funding for their many programs and inspire people to provide support, particularly at Christmastime, organizers said.

On Nov. 3o, the 3rd Annual Rock the Red Kettle ATX, a music concert presented by KOKE FM and featuring Morrow and friends, was a huge success. All proceeds of the event benefited The Salvation Army emergency shelters and wraparound services for women and children in Austin, officials said.

Morrow's vision is greater than just one performance. He would like to see musicians from throughout Austin, which bills itself at the "live music capital of the world," to sing at kettles from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. next to red kettles through the holiday season.

"If you play guitar, trumpet, if you dance and play the spoons, if you whistle or can sing like a canary, we want you!” Morrow said. “Come give 30 minutes of your time and help us raise awareness for The Salvation Army in Austin. The Army cares for women and children and the homeless of this fine city. No one gets a hand out. Only a hand up.”

Other musicians have already heeded the call. Watch for Morrow and another musicians at a red kettle near you from now until Christmas Eve. For more information and to register to play your music, visit RocktheRedKettleATX.org.
