'Dam That Cancer' Featuring 185 Lake Austin Paddlers Scheduled

On Monday, June 25, 185 participants will embark on a 21-mile paddle across Lake Austin on stand-up paddle boards for unique fundraiser.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — The sight of nearly 200 paddlers on the water's surface as a fundraiser for cancer research will be something to behold. That vision will become reality during an upcoming event dubbed "TYLER'S Dam That Cancer" scheduled for next Monday.

The event will feature 185 participants as they embark on a 21-mile paddle across Lake Austin on stand-up paddle boards from Mansfield Dam to Tom Miller Dam (Hula Hut) for the ninth annual Tyler's Dam That Cancer, the premiere fundraising event for Flatwater Foundation, organizers said. The event will culminate in an after-party from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. complete with a DJ, food, drinks, raffles and more on the LCRA Lawn (3701 Lake Austin Blvd.) open to the public, with a suggested donation to benefit Flatwater Foundation.

TYLER’S Dam That Cancer is the premier fundraising event for Flatwater Foundation, the non-profit organization that provides access to mental health services for those affected by cancer. This year, 185 paddlers who have each pledged to raise at least $2,500 will travel a 21-mile course from Mansfield Dam on Lake Austin to Tom Miller Dam (Hula Hut) on stand-up paddleboards. The event will culminate in an after-party on the LCRA Lawn (3701 Lake Austin Blvd.) open to the public, with a suggested donation to benefit Flatwater Foundation. The celebration includes a DJ, food, drinks, raffles, giveaways, and more. So far this year, Flatwater Foundation has raised over $550,000 of their $700,000 goal for TYLER’S Dam That Cancer, with all proceeds from the event going to Flatwater Foundation to support families in need.

The TYLER’S Dam That Cancer Riverboat will be sponsored by Kendra Scott this year, offering supporters who have contributed $200 or more to the 2018 Dam That Cancer fundraising campaign an exclusive spot on the floating celebration to follow the event’s 185 paddlers for the final stretch of their 21-mile trip across Lake Austin. The boat will be supplied with food & drinks from local and national supporters such as Landshark Lager, Blenders & Bowls, William Chris Vineyards, Texican Café, Waterloo Sparkling Water, Chameleon Cold Brew, LIVE Soda, GoodPop all-natural ice pops, and more. The boat will begin loading at 1:30 p.m. at the LCRA Lawn (3701 Lake Austin Blvd.) adjacent to Hula Hut, and will depart at 2 p.m.
