Dog Named Valor Survives Euthanasia, Now Safe In Pflugerville
Valor, a blue heeler mix that had been euthanized before being discarded somehow woke up but was left blind and scared of people.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — An animal rescuer's story about a dog's will to live — Valor, a blue heeler mix that had been euthanized before being discarded yet somehow woke up — has garnered national headlines.
Laurie Anding, foster coordinator for Pflugerville-based animal rescue group Cuz I Matter, posted the story of canine survival on Facebook. The story has since caught the attention of public's Inside Edition, the Miami Herald and People.
Anding said she an animal control officer found the two- to three-year-old blue heeler mix dog wandering blind, startled and alone, his vision lost to the powerful drugs used to euthanize unwanted animals. She said that after being discarded with other canines after the May attempt to euthanize, Valor somehow came to.

"This poor dog was euthanized and his body discarded," she wrote on Facebook. "They botched the dose somehow and he woke up. He was later found wandering on a highway and he is now blind."
After being notified about Valor's whereabouts, the woman drove more than 100 miles to the rural town of his former whereabouts to retrieve the dog before placing it in a foster home with the ultimate aim of finding Valor a forever home, she explained.

"Humans failed him," Anding said. "We could not let them kill him again. He lived for a reason and deserves a chance. So we drove hundreds of miles to meet his transport and one of our wonderful fosters has taken him in and is giving him love and attention while we look for his forever home."
She declined to identify the animal shelter responsible for the botched end-of-life procedure for Valor for fear of jeopardizing a working partnership with Cuz I Matter. As for Valor, the furry survivor is a little skittish around humans but in the loving care of a Pflugerville woman who's taken him in as a foster pet for the time being.
"He is a little scared of people right now but do you blame him?" Anding wrote in her June 10 post. "He does so well with other dogs."
Anyone interested in adopting Valor can contact Cuz I Matter, she added. He's also set to be neutered and treated for heart worm, for which funds are being collected to defray costs. Reach the animal rescue group via their website at www.cuzimatter.org.
