Driver Flees After Fatally Striking Pedestrian In North Austin
The incident along the 9200 block of Burnet Road early Saturday left George Grant, 52, dead; police seek the driver who fled the scene.
AUSTIN, TX — Police are seeking the driver who fled after fatally striking a pedestrian on Saturday in North Austin.
The incident occurred on just before 2 a.m. along the 9200 block of Burnet Road, police said in an advisory. A preliminary investigation showed that George Grant, 52, was walking northbound in the inside lane of the road when a black, 2005 Ford F-150 struck him. Police said Grant was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver fled the scene, police said. The front panel of the vehicle that struck Grant likely has damage from the impact, officials added.

The incident marked Austin’s 67th fatal traffic crash of 2020, police said, resulting in 72 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were 64 traffic fatalities.
