Elgin High School Student Killed in Crash Identified

The 15-year-old sophomore was killed after being struck by a care involved in a street race.

One Elgin High School student was killed Friday night and three others injured after a teenager lost control of his car during a street race, authorities said.

Victor Garcia, 17, was racing down Wells School Road when he crashed into a parked car, reported KVUE. The parked car struck 15-year-old Ender Lopez, who was watching the race, school authorities told the station. Lopez died immediately.

Garcia and two other spectators, 18-year-old Elgin High senior Marcus Martinez, and 17-year-old Buddy Humphries, were transported to University Medical Center-Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries.

“It hit really hard, because he’s young; he’s a sophomore. He was going to go places,” Jesse Martinez, who played soccer with Lopez, told KVUE.

While there are no criminal charges at this time, police are still investigating the crash, officials told KVUE.
