Failure To Yield Right Of Way Leads To Man's Death: Austin PD
Police said Luis Fernando Martinez-Vertiz, 25, was traveling on North Lamar Boulevard when at a flashing yellow light when he crashed.
AUSTIN, TX — Police on Wednesday identified the driver killed in North Austin after failing to yield of right away in North Austin over the weekend.
Police said the incident occurred at North Lamar Boulevard and Morrow Street just before 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, where a silver, 2000 Nissan Xterra was traveling southbound on North Lamar when the driver failed to yield the right of way in attempting to turn left on a flashing yellow light.
A white, 2018 Ford F450 truck traveling northbound on Lamar proceeded through the intersection at a green light before colliding with the Xterra, police said. The passenger of the Nissan, Luis Fernando Martinez-Vertiz, 25, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The condition of the other driver was not disclosed.

Police noted the incident is Austin’s 33rd fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in 34 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018, police added, there were 24 fatal traffic crashes and 25 traffic fatalities.
