Fire Officials Seek North Austin Target Store Arson Suspect

Austin Fire Department says a woman entered the store asking for a lighter before setting a clothes rack ablaze.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Fire officials seek the public's help in finding a woman they said set a clothing rack on fire at Target store in North Austin.

The incident occurred Wednesday within the Target store located at 5621 North Interstate 35 (Capitol Plaza), Austin fire officials said in a press advisory. The suspect asked store employees to point her to where lighters were sold before making her way to a rack of clothes she allegedly set ablaze, fire officials said.

Investigators said she drove off in a dark vehicle. Surveillance camera images from the store show the woman entering the Target, along with a photo of the car in which she drove off (see above).

Officials urge anyone with information that might prove useful in their investigation to contact them the Austin Fire Department's arson investigations unit at (512) 974-0240. A call to Crimestoppers also could be made by calling (512) 472-TIPS (8477).
