Firefighters Extinguish Dumpster Fire In North Austin
On a day where most folks have the day off, fire crews at Metric Boulevard safeguard building abutting cardboard-filled trash compactor.
AUSTIN, TX — Fire crews responded to a dumpster fire in North Austin on Monday that was exacerbated given its cardboard contents.
The Austin Fire Department responded to the blaze at around 3 p.m. at 9714 Metric Blvd. On Twitter, fire officials said the trash compactor was filled with cardboard. The fire was sparked amid an Austin temperature of 99 degrees in a scorching heat that eases ignition of combustible materials under the unforgiving heat of a Texas summer.
For Austin firefighters not taking a break on Labor Day as most folks took time off, it's all in a day's work: "Battalion 7 utilizes a winch to pull it away from the building to overhaul contents," officials wrote pithily on Twitter with accompanying video footage and photos illustrating the meticulous nature of their work.
