First-Year Pflugerville Teacher Was Honored White House Guest
Windermere Primary School teacher Cody Summerville snags prestigious invite largely for his innovative teaching methods.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- A first-year Pflugerville ISD teacher was invited to attend the White House as an honored guest this month.
Cody Summerville, a teacher at Windermere Primary School, was invited to visit with President Obama on May 3 as an honored guest for the National Teacher of the Year ceremony. Summerville was invited as a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children organization's inaugural Young Professionals Advisory Council.
“I found working with younger children the most rewarding and of highest impact," Summerville told the Austin American-Statesman.

A NAYEC statement that acted as something of a professional reference sent to the White House showcased Summerville’s teaching methods as a reason for his inclusion on the White House invite list.
“He possesses a deep knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice and a passion not only for ensuring that his students benefit from this knowledge, but that all students are able to access excellent teachers who are committed to and supported in implementing best practices in early childhood education,” the statement reads.
