Flooring Services Firm Breaks Ground In Pflugerville With $20M Local Investment

Flooring Services Southwest expansion to create 140 immediate jobs, with 200 hired as part of a five-year plan, officials said.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — A flooring services firm was scheduled to break ground on a $20 million campus on Monday in a move creating 140 immediate jobs to the city, officials said.

Pflugerville Community Development Corp. (PCDC) officials touted news of the groundbreaking for Flooring Services Southwest, a subsidiary of FS Builder Resources, at 130 Commerce Center in Pflugerville. The company will bring 140 jobs, with expansion to 200 jobs in the next five years, according to PCDC Executive Director Amy Madison.

Officials said the state-of-the-art facility, which will be located at the corner of Helios Way and Impact Way, will include several FS Builder Resources companies, including: Flooring Services Southwest, Interior Builders Supply (IBS) Lighting, Design Gallery, Stone Resources, Premier Stair and FS Blinds. The company is relocating from two Austin locations on Long Vista Drive and Metric Boulevard.

The first phase of construction calls for a 187,000-square-foot facility that includes office space, the first regional design and lighting gallery in the state, and a large warehouse for materials necessary in single family new construction services, officials said. Phase two includes another 73,000-square-foot facility for stone countertop fabrication. The general contractor on the 260,000-square–foot total expansion is Structure Tone Southwest in Austin.

“The team at Flooring Services Southwest wanted their own custom-designed facility to meet their customer’s needs,” Madison said. “They searched other communities, but found Pflugerville to offer exactly what they required for their business—affordable, shovel-ready land located right on the highway for great access and high visibility, and a talented, capable workforce to help grow the company and provide exemplary services for builders.”

Flooring Services Southwest closed on a 30-acre tract of land purchased from the PCDC in November 2016. Phase one and two of the construction project will be built on a 15-acre tract at 130 Commerce Center, a mixed-use development located at the southwest corner of SH 130 and Pecan Street. The remaining 15-acre tract will be used for further expansion.

Flooring Services Southwest CEO Harry Crosby shared insights into how Pflugerville came to be selected for the company expansion.

“Historically, we have always taken into consideration the predictions of expanded growth—both in the community in which our buildings would reside, and within our own company," he said. "We needed a location that would offer us the opportunity to recruit talent, keep us ahead of the curve and coincide with the efficiencies of our business. Knowing that there is no other operation quite like ours in the area for our segment of the industry, Pflugerville fit the bill."

Crosby thanked economic development officials for their zeal in pursuing the expansion: “I would like to thank the City of Pflugerville for their enthusiasm, for making this decision so easy, and for welcoming us with open arms.”

Officials with the Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce were scheduled to host a groundbreaking ceremony onsite today at 4 p.m. June 5. There's no word if city officials will start to refer to the company as Pflooring Services Southwest in keeping with their usual word play associated with the silent "p" of their city's name.
