Fore! Golf Galaxy Golf Supplies Store Opens At Site Of Shuttered North Austin Golfsmith Location

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Golfers throughout Austin can breathe a collective sigh of relief: After having lost a Golfsmith retail store location, the city gained a new Golf Galaxy site operated by Dick's Sporting Goods.

This past weekend, a two-day grand opening celebration was staged at the new Golf Galaxy location at the Austin Arboretum location, 10001 Research Blvd. The store is one of more than 30 stores nationwide once operated by Golfsmith purchased by the giant sporting goods company.

Local golf aficionados lined up to glimpse the new store during a grand opening over the weekend, which featured giveaways and interactive activities. Store officials said the Golf Galaxy will be fully re-stocked with the latest new golf equipment, apparel, shoes and accessories offering state-of-the-art fitting tools and dedicated golf associates.

The Austin Arboretum store is one of 36 new Golf Galaxy stores throughout the country purchased by Dick's Sporting Goods, the nation's largest sporting goods retailer. The purchase expands the golf retailer's presence to 98 locations across 33 states, officials said.

In addition to the Austin location, a store in Arlington, Texas, also was purchased and revamped as a Golf Galaxy location. The company also operates stores in three other Texas communities: Houston, San Antonio and The Woodlands.

"We look forward to celebrating the grand opening of 36 new Golf Galaxy stores in 16 different states this weekend," said Lauren Hobart, Executive Vice President & Chief Digital & Consumer Officer, DICK'S Sporting Goods, in a prepared statement. "These former Golfsmith locations will be fully restocked with the latest new golf equipment, apparel, shoes and accessories offering state-of-the-art fitting tools and dedicated golf associates. We invite former Golfsmith customers to play on at Golf Galaxy."

The various Golfsmith stores were purchased by Dick's after Golfsmith International Holdings Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization last September. Golfsmith formerly operated in 16 states.
