Former Head Of Hutto ISD Tapped To Lead Pflugerville School District

Doug Killian earned accolades for turning Hutto ISD around financially and increasing percentage of college-bound students.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — School district board of trustees have tapped the former superintendent of the Hutto ISD to lead the Pflugerville school district.

Doug Killian emerged as the lone finalist for the superintendent's job after a months-long search. The board voted unanimously on Monday to make Killian the prospective superintendent of their school district.

As noted in the Austin American-Statesman, Killian steered the Hutto school district through financial exigencies while helping to increase the percentage of college-bound high school students.

Killian earned accolades for his efforts raising the level of college-bound students, including being named the Region 13 Superintendent of the Year in 2015 and earning recognition for the same title as bestowed by the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce.

“We looked at his achievements during his tenure at Hutto and all the change that occurred at that district, (and) I think he has the skillset to be creative, innovative and maintain what’s best for our students,” school board president Vernagene Mott said, as quoted by the Statesman.
